Improv for the Young Performer, is grounded in Viola Spolin’s theater games which are designed specifically for each age group. Through Spolin’s games, students adapt focused play to unlock the individual’s capacity for creative self-expression. Join the fun and be a part of the team that develops and writes an original play with music!
Th Monday night Jam is is weekly jam session at Space Studios. This group works on becoming more proficient players, working on rhythm, chord progressions, and melody. Tunes range from The Grateful Dead and The Band and across to classic blues and rock covers.

Join us for this exciting opportunity to dive into the art of the Rhythm section. In this two part workshop, bassist Jesse Murphy and drummer Evan Garcia-Renart will help decipher the essential elements of a solid rhythm section. We will discuss how to lock into a groove and learn how to interact with each other harmonically and rhythmically. Regardless of what instrument you play, this workshop will teach deepen your understanding of the essential foundations of any good band. There will be discussion, opportunity to play in your own section, and a chance to hear Jesse and Evan cut loose a bit as well.

Song Lab is a 5 week workshop for songwriters and song lovers alike. If you’ve ever made up a tune or written a song you are, among many other things, a songwriter! In this creative workshop we will cover the history and ideas of songs through recordings, performance, and class discussion. We will share our songs in a supportive group environment, developing our songwriting craft and learn how to tap into our inspiration.
Led by writer, musician, and teacher Robert Burke Warren. Robert’s songwriting appears in movies and TV, on albums by Rosanne Cash, RuPaul, and rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson. As a globetrotting bassist, he toured extensively in the US and Europe. He has performed as Buddy Holly in London in the West End musical Buddy: the Buddy Holly Story. Directed by Mary Ward and Ben Senterfit, this fun filled week-long camp creates an exciting performing arts experience for children and youth. Campers learn songs, scenes, dance/choreography from Broadway musicals and also explore the wacky world of improvisation.
With fun experiments, workshops, and screenings we’ll deconstruct what makes the videos, movies, and tv shows you love so incredible, and how to use that knowledge to create your very own masterpiece. Join us in this fun DIY film workshop!
The Old Time String Brigade is a new group that meets at Community Music Space to share songs from the age of music when recording was done on a wax cylinder or not at all. Prior to each session we will discuss a few tunes to play, post the chords and melodies on our website, and then arrange and play them down at the session.
So dust off that guitar, grab that jug, or simply warm up them vocal cords and join us for a good ‘ole string jam at the Chocolate Factory!

Join Sean Gallagher in this 8 week improvisation workshop. We’ll begin with the blues and simple chord progressions, and then expand into Jazz harmony. As we go along we’ll learn about the evolution of improvisation in American music.
Open to jazz beginners and intermediate players; you should have a basic proficiency on your instrument.
