Aidan Samp

Aidan Samp is a drummer, percussionist, and “tone scientist” originally from Santa Monica, CA. He holds a BA in music from Bard College with a focus on jazz drum set performance and improvisation. He has studied and worked closely with Peter O’Brien as well as John Esposito, Thurman Barker, and Erica Lindsay. He was also heavily involved in Roland Vasquez’s Afro-Latin Percussion Ensemble, where he led and taught individual parts to peers. Aidan has led small and large groups playing both original compositions and arrangements of past and contemporary composers. As an educator, Aidan has taught all levels of drum set and percussion and believes in a holistic approach to student-initiated learning.

Aidan has studied North Indian Classical music with world-renowned Tabla player and member of the Miles Electric Band, Debasish
Chaudhuri, as well as drum set with Hamir Atwal. He was named the “Herb Alpert Emerging Young Artist” and awarded a 40 thousand
dollar scholarship for the undergraduate program of his choice.
